The DeKalb County Health Department houses the birth and death records for persons who were born in or died in DeKalb County.  These records include the current records and those dating back to 1882.  Prior to that date, the records were destroyed by a fire.
Birth records are available at the health department if the child was born in DeKalb County.
Persons who are eligible to request and obtain a Certified Copy of a Birth Certificate include the following:  Person named on the record (over age 18), Parents of person named on the record, Sibling (over 18) with proof of relationship to at least one parent, Grandparent (requires verification), Spouse (with marriage license), or Adult Child of person named on record (requires verification). 

To obtain a certified birth or death certificate you must send a legible copy of your photo ID along with your application.  Your payment must be cash or money order only.  Cost is $10.00 per certificate. We stop issuing at 4:15 p.m.

Death records are available at the health department in the county where the death actually occurredIf a person died in DeKalb County, eligible persons may obtain a Certified Copy of the death record. 
Persons eligible include:  The deceased person's spouse, parent, child, grandchild, or sibling if the person making the request is at least eighteen (18) years of age (requires verification).  Death genealogy is open to the public per IC5-14-3-3.
